Every moment is a new beginning!
About 7-8 years ago, I was invited to join a thriving meditation group made up primarily of mid-to-late-to-post career women. The commitment was limited: the group met in-person for a few hours every 2 months; and the format was simple: A round of sharing what is on our heart, a guided meditation, and a check-out, followed by social time. It was (and still is - more on that in a moment) a wonderfully nourishing, enriching and energy giving community that always fills my cup.
When COVID-19 arrived, like so many others, our community moved online. Members of the group, many whom where in vulnerable groups, were confined to their homes for long stretches, family situations changed and members began leaving the State of New Jersey where we were all based. As the Pandemic waned, a question arose: can we continue to exist when we are no longer in the same physical location?
Now 5 years in, the answer is a resounding ‘yes’. We still meet virtually every 2 months. The make-up of the group changes with each session, as we arrive and begin again as if for the first time. What does NOT change is our intention to create community, to support each other, and to bear loving witness to each other in all of our human messiness and growth. What this group has taught me - more than anything - is that nothing can replace being seen, heard and felt by another human nervous system. It even works virtually. These women - just a random group brought together by serendipity - always bring their most vulnerable, authentic selves, and in doing so, allow me to show up as I am. What unfolds is a container that allows each of us to inspire and be inspired, to grow, to grieve, to celebrate, to encourage, and to be wholeheartedly witnessed.
At the end of each session we honor this unfolding and acknowledge that while each gathering takes on a life of its own it always brings each of us exactly what is needed in that moment. In our wrapping up our most recent session, one participant reflected on the impermanent nature of our gatherings, which got me thinking:
Every moment is always the last
Each of us are always taking our last breath - until a new breath arrives. Somehow - miraculously - the body knows how to breathe itself. Then the moment has passed. Perhaps it’s morbid to think of life in this way AND it also brings freedom and possibility.
Each breath carries with it a new beginning
of letting go of what no longer serves us, AND of taking new action that will bring us closer to who we truly are or what we most long for.
As human beings, we are wired for connection. Biologically, we cannot survive without a caregiver to meet our basic needs. Psychologically, we cannot develop into healthy beings without the (healthy) attunement of another nervous system. That is why, as a transformational coach, I seek to bear witness to and support my clients in their process of becoming. Lasting transformation is nervous-system-to-nervous-system work, requiring a deeply personalized approach. Whether it’s helping you envision a new future for yourself or bringing your current vision to life, I am here to help you thrive.
